Summer Triangle

and the northern Milky Way

Click the image for full resolution

The milky way is framed between the three stars that form the Summer Triangle: Deneb, Vega, and Altair. A wealth of deep sky objects is visible in this photograph including the North American Nebula, the Butterfly Nebula, and vast dust clouds that obscure the bright concentrations of stars along the galaxy's disk.

This image was taken from Rattlesnake Lake, WA, near North Bend.
