Click the image for full resolution

The galaxy pair NGC 4631 (the Whale) and NGC 4656 (the Hockey Stick) lie in the small constellation of Canes Venatici, and are believed to be gravitationally bound. The Whale galaxy has a small companion (the whale's calf) designated NGC 4627. The Hockey Stick (NGC 4656) is actually an interacting pair of galaxies, the other of which is NGC 4657.
